About the Album
The Gautier Capuçon Foundation presents the debut album of the Duo Shum, set to be released on May 31, 2024 under the Warner Classics – Erato label. Comprised of Canadian-Ukrainian pianist Anastasia Rizikov and Franco-Russian cellist Lisa Strauss, the duo pays homage to their Slavic roots in this fascinating musical journey, from the fantastical Turkey envisioned by Fazil Say to the diabolical emotional shock of Alfred Schnittke.
The unique aesthetics of each piece reveal the infinite palette of colors and timbres of the two musicians. This rare repertoire is associated with iconic pieces of Slavic music. The Duo Shum also wished to honor the Ukrainian repertoire by recording two pieces by Myroslav Skoryk and Mykola Lysenko.
